Gono Forum chief Mostafa Mohsin Montu no more

Mostafa Mohsin Montu, a veteran politician, freedom fighter and President of Gono Forum, passed away while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in the capital on Sunday (Jun 15). He was 80. Montu breathed his last at 5:10 p.m., local media reported citing Mahmud Ullah Madhu, a central leader of Gono Forum. His body will be kept in front of Central Shaheed Minar at 2 p.m. on Monday (Jun 16) to pay last respect to him. Later, he will be buried at Banani Graveyard, said a press release.

A prominent figure in Bangladesh's political landscape, Montu was widely respected for his contributions during the country's Liberation War and his long-standing commitment to democratic values.

Gono Forum Founder Dr. Kamal Hossain expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of valiant Freedom Fighter, former lawmaker and Gono Forum President Mostafa Mohsin Montu. In a condolence message, Dr Kamal Hossain said Mostafa Mohsin Montu was a patriot, a democracy-minded person, a lifelong fighter and a leader of the masses. He cherished the spirit of the Liberation War throughout his life, he added.

He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party – BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Mostafa Mohsin Montu.
