Bangladesh logs zero death from Covid after three months

Bangladesh logged zero Covid-related deaths in the 24 hours till Tuesday (Mar 15) morning after more than three months amid signs that the pandemic is easing with a declining positivity rate.

The country recorded zero deaths from Covid-19 in a 24-hour period last time on Dec 9 last year, data compiled by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) show.

This year, Bangladesh recorded double digit deaths on Jan 13 for the first time with 12 deaths and the trend continued for over a month and a half. In the first fifteen days in March, deaths remained in single digits except for Mar 5, when 13 deaths were reported.

Bangladesh confirmed its first Covid-19 death on Mar 18, 2020 and the country's Covid-19 death toll currently stands at 29,112.

Meanwhile, the health authorities reported 217 more infections during the 24-hour period.

The recovery count rose to 18,64,408 after another 1,600 patients were discharged from the dedicated hospitals during the past one day.

From the beginning of the pandemic, 95.61 percent Covid-19 patients recovered among the infected people while 1.49 percent died, the DGHS statistics showed.

As of Mar 14 data, among the total 29,112 fatalities, 12,791 occurred in Dhaka division, 5,861 in Chattogram, 2,141 in Rajshahi, 3,716 in Khulna, 982 in Barishal, 1,326 in Sylhet, 1,416 in Rangpur and 879 in Mymensingh divisions.
