BEPZA signs MoU with Standard Chartered to attract investment in EPZs

Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) and Standard Chartered signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday (Mar 15) at BEPZA Complex, Dhaka in order to enhance mutual cooperation for attracting more investment in EPZs. Under this MoU, Standard Chartered will support BEPZA to organise various trade and investment related conferences, seminars, roundtable meetings and exhibitions in home and abroad.

Member (Investment Promotion) Ali Reza Mazid and Managing Director and Head, Client Coverage, Corporate Commercial & Institutional Banking, Standard Chartered Mr. Enamul Huque signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations in this regard. Executive Chairman of BEPZA Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, ndc, psc and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Naser Ezaz Bijoy witnessed the signing ceremony.

Mentioning the MoU of starting a new steps, the Executive Chairman of BEPZA Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, ndc, psc said if we work jointly definitely the efforts will be much more effective for both of us in exploring new investment. He said, “Our strength is our 40 years of experience. We have expertise to facilitate new investment comparatively to other organizations.” He hoped that this partnership will be helpful for BEPZA in organising investment promotion program by using Standard Chartered’s unique global network.

Naser Ezaz Bijoy, CEO, Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said, “BEPZA has been a transformational driver in accelerating export growth for Bangladesh since its founding. Under its foresightful patronage, the EPZs have been creating new employment opportunities despite the pressure exerted by the advent of Fourth Industrial Revolution, while enabling much needed foreign currency inflows, helping meet growing external obligations. Most importantly, the EPZs have been vital hubs of technology diffusion, catalysing productivity improvements and new possibilities for the nation. We deeply value our strategic relationship with BEPZA and we look forward to expanding the partnership between our two organisations by establishing a collaboration platform.”
