7.90 lakh doses of AstraZeneca vaccine arrive in Bangladesh

A total of 7.90 lakh doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine arrived on Saturday (Oct 2) afternoon at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from Germany under COVAX facilities.

Senior secretary of Health Service Division Lokman Hossain Mian, Director General of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam and German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tröster received the consignment of 7.90 lakh shots of AstraZeneca vaccine at the airport, Maidul Islam, public relations officer of the health ministry told media.

Till to date, Bangladesh has collected 5,27,19,940 doses of vaccines, the DGHS sources said.

Bangladesh has so far approved eight Covid-19 vaccines to control the deadly disease.

The approved Covid-19 vaccines are from Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, CoronaVac, Pfizer, Covishield, Sputnik V, AstraZeneca  and Sinopharm.
