25 lakh doses of Pfizer vaccine arrive in Bangladesh

A total of 25 lakh doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine arrived in the early hours of Tuesday (Sep 28) at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from the USA under COVAX facilities.

Officials of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and other relevant organizations received the consignment of 25 lakh shots of Pfizer vaccine at the airport, Dr Md Shamsul Haque, Line Director of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health under Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), told media.

The first consignment of 100,620 doses of Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine under COVAX scheme arrived in Bangladesh on May 31, this year while on Sep 1, Bangladesh got 10 lakh doses of Pfizer vaccine, the DGHS sources said.

The total number of Pfizer vaccine has stood at 36,04,480, it added.

On May 27, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) approved emergency use of Pfizer mRNA Covid-19 vaccine in the country.

Till to date, Bangladesh has collected 5,19,29,940 doses of vaccines, the DGHS sources said.

Bangladesh has so far approved eight Covid-19 vaccines to control the deadly coronavirus disease. The approved Covid-19 vaccines are from Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, CoronaVac, Pfizer, Covishield, Sputnik V, AstraZeneca and Sinopharm.
