Educational institutions to be opened if Covid infection rate drops: Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Tuesday (Aug 24) said educational institutions would be reopened if the spread of coronavirus infection reduces.

"All educational institutions in the country will be reopened soon if the rate of coronavirus infection continues to decline," she said.

Dipu, also the Awami League Joint General Secretary, said this at a discussion at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital organised by sub-committee on cultural affairs of Awami League, said a press release.

"The rate of coronavirus infection in the country is gradually decreasing, if this trend continues, all educational institutions will be opened soon step by step," she said.

"Everyone may not get a chance to take classes six days a week from the beginning," she said, adding, "It will take some time, we have overall preparations for the opening of educational institutions".

Dipu Moni said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed us from the beginning of this global crisis to work with the issue of health protection as a priority not disrupting the educational life of the students".

"That's why we have adopted various methods so that they do not fall behind in their studies," she added.

Chairman of the Awami League's sub-committee on culture Ataur Rahman presided over the function. Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader was the chief guest.

Awami League Secretary for Culture Asim Kumar Ukil, State Minister for Social Welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khashru and State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid were present, among others.
