Rajshahi’s virus restriction extends two more hours

Rajshahi’s virus restriction extends two more hours

Local administration has extended the existing restriction to two more hours in order to contain the present spread of the Covid-19 in the city. From Monday (Jun 7), all markets, shopping malls and other business hubs will remain closed from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. until further order. The decision was taken in a meeting related to the COVID-19 situation held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner on Sunday, local media reported.

Earlier on Jun 2, the administration had imposed special restrictions asking all shops and business centers to remain closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. until further order. Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton attended and addressed the meeting as chief guest with DC Abdul Jalil in the chair. Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dr Humayun Kabir, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rajshahi range Abdul Baten, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Abu Kalam Siddque and Superintendent of Police Masud Hossain were present at the meeting.

After 5 p.m., movement of the public in general excepting emergency needs will strictly be restricted. All sorts of public meetings and gatherings will remain banned. None will be allowed to eat in hotels and restaurants.

The meeting sources, however, said transportation of mangoes and other seasonal fruits and green vegetables side by side with the emergency service delivery institutions will be out of the purview of the restriction.

The district administration accompanied by the law enforcing agencies will work to enforce the restrictions across the district.

Mayor Liton told the meeting that the entire Bangladesh is now at stake relating to the Rajshahi’s escalating trend of Covid-19. So, preventive measures have become crucial here.

He said the district administration has launched a mobile corona test programme free of cost today aimed at assessing the extent of community transmission of Covid-19 in the city.

The free testing step will help to undertake time-befitting preventive measures to limit the spread, he added.
