The government has decided to administer the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine in the country from Apr 7. Health Minister Zahid Maleque made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday (Feb 23), local media reported.
Bangladesh launched the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive on Feb 7. Some 3 million people in the country have so far taken the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
The government is planning to administer Covid-19 vaccines to 16.9 million people from varied high-risk groups on a priority basis.
Since Mar 8, 2020, the coronavirus has spread to nearly every district and the official data showed the national tally for Covid-19 infections has increased to 544,116 with 8,374 deaths so far.
Bangladesh reported 399 new Covid-19 cases and 18 new deaths on Tuesday.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said that 12,748 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across the country.
The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 492,887 including 828 new recoveries on Tuesday, said the DGHS.
According to official data, the Covid-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is now 1.54 percent and the current recovery rate is 90.58 percent.
Bangladesh record the highest daily new cases of 4,019 on Jul 2 and the highest number of deaths of 64 on Jun 30 last year.
