State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Md Abdullah, who died in a city hospital on Saturday (Jun 13) night, had been infected with the coronavirus (Covid-19). Public relations officer at the ministry of religious affairs Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter to media on Sunday morning.
He said, “I came to know that the minister had tested positive for coronavirus.”
Sheikh Md Abdullah, a central leader of the Ruling Bangladesh Awami League, died at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital at 11:45 p.m. on Saturday at the CMH after suffering a heart attack.
He will be buried in Gopalganj following a janaja on Sunday.
Earlier, Sheikh Md Abdullah was admitted to Dhaka CMH with chest pain. Later, he died after suffering a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
He was born at Kekania village of Gopalganj on Sep 8, 1945.
