Flights on int’l routes to resume from 3rd week of June

Flights on international routes from Bangladesh will resume in the third week of June after over two months of suspension due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

“The specific date and time will be informed later,” Md Mohibul Haque, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, told media.

“We’ll resume flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Dhaka-London first on any day in the third week of June,” he added.

He also said that flights will be resumed on any routes based on its availability.

The decision over other airlines has not been taken yet but Qatar Airlines is willing to operate transit flights from Bangladesh to other destinations, he said adding that they have applied for this which will be decided after consulting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

However, Qatar Airlines has not yet agreed to carry passengers from Bangladesh to Qatar right at this moment except other destinations through using Doha as transit, he added.

Earlier on Jun 1, Civil Aviation and Tourism permitted operation of all domestic flights maintaining social distancing and following health guidelines.

The domestic flights on Dhaka-Chattogram, Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Syedpur routes resumed on a limited scale.
