Nine pairs of intercity trains start plying in country

Nine pairs of inter-city trains today started running on different routes in the country, maintaining social distancing as per the health rules to prevent the transmission of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

Earlier, a total of eight pairs of trains started running since last Sunday. Nine more pairs of trains have been launched to various destinations in the country this morning, Bangladesh Railway Additional Director General (Operation) Miya Jahan told media.

A total of 11 pairs of trains were supposed to be launched today, he said, adding that ‘Benapole Express’ and ‘Kurigram Express’ were not launched due to weekly holidays. ‘Benapole Express’ and ‘Kurigram Express’ will start from Thursday (Jun 4), he added.

Bangladesh Railway Additional Director General urged all the passengers to wear masks during their train journey and follow all the instructions set for train journey earlier.

The nine inter-city trains are: Tista Express, Nilsagar Express, Rupsha Express, Kapotaksha Express, Madhumati Express, Meghna Express, Kishoreganj Express, Upakul Express and Brahmaputra Express.
