Bangladesh confirms 37 more deaths, 2911 new Covid-19 cases

Bangladesh has confirmed total 709 deaths from coronavirus (Covid-19) as 37 more people died in the last 24 hours, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday (Jun 2). Besides, 2,911 people tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours raising the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 52,445.

As 523 patients recovered in last 24 hours, the number of total recovery reached 11,120.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director general of DGHS came up with the information in an online regular health bulletin about the latest corona situation in the country.

In the last 24 hours, 53 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 12,704 samples, she added.

Dr Nasima, who is also the acting Director General of DGHS, said the infection rate in Bangladesh has been recorded at 22.91 percent Tuesday.

Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 21 percent and the mortality rate is 1.35 percent in country.

Among the deceased, 33 were male and four were female. 28 patients breathed their last in hospitals across the country while nine died at their homes.

Dr Nasima confirmed that in the last 24 hours, 10 died in Dhaka division, 15 in Chattogram division, four in Sylhet division, three in Barishal division, two in Rajshahi division, two in Rangpur division and one died in Mymensingh division.

According to the age-based statistics of 37 new victims, one was aged between 21 and 30, four between 31 and 40 years, one between 41 and 50, 10 between 51 and 60, nine between 61 and 70, 10 between 71 and 80, and two more between 81 and 90 years.

Dr Nasima reiterated that people must use face masks all the time outdoors to stop the spread of Covid-19.

“We can use home-made masks made out of clothes as surgical and N-95 masks should be preserved for only those who are treating the coronavirus patients,” she said.

She however, warned that those who have respiratory problems or unable to put on masks on their own should not use home-made masks for longer period.

Across the country 388 more people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours while 2,506 were home and institutionally quarantined during the same period.

Bangladesh reported its first croronaviurs case on Mar 8 while first death on Mar 18.
