Central bank announces insurance for COVID-19 positive bankers

Central bank announces insurance for COVID-19 positive bankers

The Bangladesh Bank has instructed banks to provide health insurance coverage of up to Tk 10 lakh and special grants for bankers, if they get infected with Covid-19 while attending office physically during the general holidays declared by the government.

If officials or employees get infected with COVID-19 while performing duties at banks, they will receive Tk 5 lakh to Tk 10 lakh based on their ranks as health insurance money, local media reported citing a central bank circular issued in Dhaka today.

The circular further said that the health insurance and special grant will be applicable to any banker infected with COVID-19 since the beginning of the government-announced holidays and within 30 days after the holidays.

The money has to be paid by the respective banks within 15 days and the bank will have to bear the full medical cost of the patient.

If any bank employee dies from the virus, their family will get a grant of five times higher than the certain health insurance, the circular added.

This amount cannot be adjusted with any other dues or advance. The banker’s family will receive other facilities as well, depending on the bank’s existing policy, said the circular.

The circular further mentioned that banks would bear all expenses if any banker falls into any sorts of accidents while going to their workplace during the time of the general holidays.
