Burhanuddin Khan Jahangir passes away

Eminent educationist, litterateur and art-critic Dr Borhanuddin Khan Jahangir passed away on Monday (Mar 23) at the age of 84. He breathed his last at his Gulshan residence in the city, local media reported citing family sources.

Dr Jahangir died of old age complications.

Dr Jahangir is a Bangladeshi academic and writer. He was awarded the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1969 and the Ekushey Padak in 2009.

Burhanuddin Khan Jahangir was born in Chandpur in 1936. He completed his matriculation exam in 1950 from Muslim Government High School, Dhaka and intermediate exam in 1952 from Dhaka College.

He obtained his bachelors and masters in political science from the University of Dhaka in 1955 and 1956 respectively. He got his Ph.D from Durham University in 1974.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Dr Jahangir.

In a condolence message, the PM said the working life of Ekushey Padak-winning educationist will continue to inspire all.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
