Coronavirus cases rise to 27 in Bangladesh

Three more people have tested positive for coronavirus in the country, raising the cases of total infected to 27, said Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora, director of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).

Of the three cases, two people came from abroad while another has contracted the disease after coming in contact with another patient, she said during the regular briefing in Dhaka.

Two of the infected are male while another is a female. They are aged between 20, 30 and 40, she added.

Of the 27 cases that tested positive for coronavirus, five were released after treatment, two have died and 20 others are currently undergoing treatment at different hospitals, Flora added.

The first coronavirus case was confirmed in the country on Mar 8 and the first death on Mar 18.

The second person died from coronavirus yesterday.

Meanwhile, the number of globally confirmed coronavirus casese rose to more than 300,000 on Sunday. So far, the virus has claimed 13,068 lives -- a mortality rate of 12 percent, according to Worldometer.
