All Bangladeshi airlines suspend flight to India

Biman Bangladesh Airlines and three other local carriers have decided to suspend their flights to India following New Delhi’s latest decision to ban all tourist visas for all country for one month.

India on Thursday (Mar 12) decided to impose a ban on entry of tourists to its territory from Mar 13 to Apr 15, 2020 to contain the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.

To this end, Biman, the national flag carrier canceled all its flights to Delhi and Kolkata in India from Mar 14 to Apr 15.

Civil aviation and tourism secretary M Mohibul Haque said Biman will operate a special ferry flight to India if required to bring back Bangladeshi tourists, who are now visiting India.

US-Bangla Airlines also canceled all its flights to Chennai and Kolkata while NOVOAIR and Regent Airways did the same to their lone Indian destination of Kolkata.

However, US-Bangla Airlines and Regent Airways have decided to operate ferry flight to Chennai and Kolkata till Mar 15.

“We will sent our one empty aircraft to Kolkata on Mar 14, 15 and 16 and on Mar 15 to Chennai as a ferry flight to evacuate stranded Bangladeshi passengers from India”, US-Bangla Airlines General Manager Public Relations Kamrul Islam told media.

Meanwhile, Regent Airways will operate two ferry flights to Kolkata on Mar 13 and 14 to bring back the Bangladeshi nationals.
