Kalidas Karmakar cremated

Noted artist Kalidas Karmakar was cremated at Sabujbagh Bardeshwari Temple in the city on Monday (Oct 21). Earlier, Kalidas’s body was taken to Dakeshwari temple from the BIRDEM mortuary and from there the funeral march to the Dhaka University’s Fine Arts Faculty premises.

Professor Nisar Hossain, Dean of the Fine Arts Faculty, paid respect to the deceased artist by placing a floral wreath on his body at the faculty premises. The teachers and students of different departments of the faculty paid respect to the reverend artist.

Artists, teachers and students of the Fine Arts faculty paid deep respect to the noted artist while his body was kept at the Central Shaheed Minar, later. The tribute programme was concluded with observing a minute-silence, local media reported.

Various organizations and individuals including Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, Bengal Foundation, Dhaka University, Fine Arts Faculty of Jagannath University, Sampriti Bangladesh, Cultural Affairs Ministry, Gallery Cosmos, Dhaka Gallery, Shilpokala Academy, Bangla Academy, National Museum, artists Hamiduzzaman Khan, Hashem Khan, Monirul Islam, Shahid Kazi, Rokeya Sultana, Farida Zaman, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman, dramatist Liakat Ali Lucky and writer Mafidul Haq, among others, paid respect to the deceased artist.

Internationally-acclaimed artist Kalidas Karmakar passed away on Friday (Oct 18) at the age of 73.
