Bangladesh team is going to NASA

Six world champion teams from six categories and local organizers are going to NASA. There they will visit Kennedy Space Center and join Falcon-9 Space Shuttle launching program.

Recently, NASA Space Apps Challenge 2018 Global Organizing Team has invited World Champion Team Bangladesh and local organizers to participate at the event.

Bangladesh team is expected to be led by ICT Division. Bangladesh Team will fly towards Orlando, Florida on Jul 19 and reach destination on Jul 20. On Jul 21, world champion teams will participate at the Falcon-9 Space Shuttle launching event. In the following two days (Jul 22-23) Bangladesh team will participate at the felicitation program organized by global organizers and participate in the tour inside Kennedy Space Center.

On Feb 16, for the first time, Bangladesh has become world champion at NASA Space Apps Challenge. In Best Use of Data category Team Olik from Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Sylhet secured top place by beating 1,395 teams around the world.

At the primary result announced on Dec 8, Team Olik made it to top 4 along with teams from California, Kuala Lumpur and Yamaguchi, Japan. Team Olik became champions from Sylhet Division in 2018’s NASA Space Apps Challenge - National Hack-a-Thon.

Team Olik made a VR application. Using this application users can experience the NASA lunar landing site in virtual reality. This Lunar VR Project intends to provide experience in virtual reality. It is portable and educative at the same time.

As Bangladesh team is participating at tour to NASA, in this regard ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP and Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA)’s Managing Director (Secretary) Hosne Ara Begum, ndc have expressed their delights.

ICT State Minister said, Digital Bangladesh is developing by hand holding with the youths of this country. Youth lead Team Olik from Shahjalal University of Science & Technology has made us proud. BASIS, under the initiative of BASIS Students’ Forum, has been organizing NASA Space Apps Challenge every year. Now it’s the chance to fly our flag high at Kennedy Space Center, NASA. This is another benchmark in the development of Digital Bangladesh.

Regarding this achievement BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir said, "This year our aim was to do better than the rest three sessions. This year we became the world champion. Now Bangladesh team will go to NASA. This is a great achievement for our country. BASIS is working relentlessly in the process of building Digital Bangladesh. This achievement is one of the milestones in our journey."

NASA Space Apps Challenge 2018 Bangladesh convener Didarul Alam said, "Our participants have done excellent in the international phase. Now team Bangladesh will go to NASA. This is the achievement of Bangladesh."

Team Olik leader Abu Sabiq Mahdi said, "Achieving the title of world champion at NASA Space Apps Challenge and going to NASA is itself a triumph for us and for our beloved country. We know the immense expectation of Bangladesh in this regard. We will always work hard to uplift our country."

In 2018, 40 projects were sorted out among 2,000 projects. From Bangladesh, nine cities have participated in this global Hack-a-Thon.
