The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issued a 48-hour heatwave alert for eight districts.

Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over eight divisions across the country and it may continue, said a BMD forecast on Thursday (May 16). Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and it may continue, it said.

Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.

The country's maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded 39.0 degrees Celsius at Dinajpur and minimum temperature was recorded 23.1 degree Celsius at Tetulia.

Maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6 a.m. Thursday was recorded three millimeters at Tetulia.

Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country. Due to increase of moisture incursion, the discomfort may persist.

After a scorching April, the beginning of May brought some relief. There were rains and thunderstorms accompanied by hail in the most parts of the country in the first week. The heatwave spells in May would be much shorter, according to BMD officials and experts.
