India clinch T20I series against Tigresses

The Indian women’s cricket team clinched the five-match T20I series against Bangladesh with two games to spare after registering a commanding seven-wicket victory in Sylhet on Thursday (May 2).

The visitors dominated the hosts with ball as well as with bat, restricting the Nigar Sultana Joty-led side to a modest 117/8 after skipper Harmanpreet Kaur opted to field keeping the cloud cover and a mild breeze at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in mind.

Openers Shafali Verma (51) and Smriti Mandhana (47) later ensured there were no hiccups during the chase as the their 91-run partnership in 73 deliveries helped the visitors chase the target down with seven wickets and nine deliveries to spare, gaining an unassailable 3-0 lead.

Shafali got out after a 38-ball 51, hitting eight fours, while Mandhana found form as she struck 47 off 42 balls with the help of five boundaries and a six.

Ritu Moni dismissed Shafali while Nahida Akter accounted for Mandhana. However, there was a little impact for the Tigresses to halt the Indian dominance.

Earlier, Bangladesh's batting struggled, with only opener Dilara Akter (37 runs) and captain Nigar Sultana Joty (28 runs) managing significant scores.

Bangladesh lost the first two T20Is by 44 runs and 19 runs (DLS method).
