Eminent Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet singer Sadi Mohammad passed away on Wednesday (Mar 13) evening. He was 70. He died around 7:30 p.m., local media repoted citing his family sources. His body is currently at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Primarily, it is heard that he took his own life.
It was learnt that, he went into trauma ever since his mother died. He was not exactly normal mentally. Perhaps he could not bear the pain of losing his mother. He fasted on Wednesday and had Iftar too.
Family sources said that Sadi was practicing in music with his Tanpura in a room of their house this evening. Suddenly, his brother Shibli Mohammad noticed the closed door of the room. Upon breaking open the door, he found the singer's lifeless body hanging from ceiling fan.
On Jul 8, 2023, his mother Jebunnesha Salim Ullah, 96, died of old age.
Sadi completed his Bachelor's and Master's in Rabindra Sangeet from the Visva-Bharati University.
In 2007, Sadi debuted as a music composer when he released the album Amakey Khujey Pabey Bhorer Shishirey.
He released the albums Srabon Akashey in 2009 and Sharthok Janom Amar in 2012.
Sadi Mohammad also served as the director of the cultural organisation, Rabi Raag.
Sadi had nine siblings including Shameem Mohammad and renowned dancer Shibli Mohammad.
He was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Channel i in 2017 and received Rabindra Award by Bangla Academy in 2025.
Their father, Salimullah, was killed during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. Salimullah Road in the capital’s Mohammadpur, is named after his father.
His death has cast a grim shadow in the country’s cultural sphere.
According to local media, his Namaz-e-Janaza will be held in front of his house at Mohammadpur on Thursday.
