Madrid return to top of LaLiga

Madrid return to top of LaLiga

Rodrygo sent Real Madrid provisionally top of LaLiga with two goals in a comfortable 3-0 win at Cadiz on Sunday (Nov 26). The Brazilian winger also set up a goal for LaLiga's top scorer Jude Bellingham, who now has 11 to his name this season in the Spanish top flight. Madrid climbed a point clear of high-flying Girona, who host Athletic Bilbao on Monday looking to reclaim top spot. Carlo Ancelotti's side also rose four points clear of fourth-placed rivals FC Barcelona, following their 1-1 draw at Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, and third-placed Atletico Madrid.

Jude Bellingham scored his 13th goal of the season as Real Madrid returned to the top of LaLiga with a 3-0 victory at lowly Cadiz. Real went into the game two points behind Girona and took an early lead through Brazil forward Rodrygo. The 22-year-old then doubled Real's lead midway through the second half. England midfielder Bellingham, 20, then continued his remarkable start to life in Madrid by firing home to seal Madrid's third straight win.

It was Bellingham's 11th goal from 12 LaLiga games since joining Real from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

The Birmingham City youth product had a hand in the first goal, playing it wide to Rodrygo, who appeared to have run into a dead end inside the penalty area but managed to maintain possession and fire into the top corner.

Madrid lost forward Vinicius Jr to injury during the international break but fellow Brazilian Rodrygo has now scored in three straight games for Real for the first time since joining from Santos in 2019.

Luka Modric drilled a low strike against the foot of the post in the second half and moments later helped the ball on to Rodrygo, who cut inside before firing inside the far post. Rodrygo then laid off to Bellingham in the left channel and the in-form Englishman fired a fine left-footed strike across goal and into the bottom corner.

With the job done, Carlo Ancelotti withdrew both goalscorers and handed young forward Gonzalo Garcia his debut.

Madrid host Napoli on Wednesday in the Champions League having already qualified from the group but looking to seal top spot.

Earlier Sunday, Marcelino Garcia Toral enjoyed a 3-0 win on his return to LaLiga management with Villarreal, with Jose Luis Morales' hat-trick sinking Osasuna 3-1.

Real Sociedad earned a 2-1 win at Sevilla, who had Sergio Ramos and Jesus Navas sent off.
