Awami League holds meeting to set programme for month of mourning

Bangladesh Awami League held a joint meeting on Saturday (Jul 23) to set programme for August, the month of mourning, commemorating the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Aug 15, 1975.

Awami League Presidium held the meeting with presidents and general secretaries of the party's Dhaka City North and South units and associate bodies at Awami League's Bangabandhu Avenue Central Office in Dhaka.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined it virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence.

The party's General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader chaired it. He presented the month-long programme in the meeting.

Later, Awami League leaders finalized rest of programme after discussing among themselves, local media reported.

The party Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Qamrul Islam, Joint General Secretaries-Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain and Mirza Azam, Publicity and Publications Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Information and Research Secretary Dr Selim Mahmud, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Forest and Environment Secretary Delwar Hossain were present, among others.

Presidents and general secretaries of Dhaka city north and south units of Awami League and its associate bodies were also present.
