Hattrick is a matter of luck: Dollar

Many cricket fans regret the fact if there were another Mashrafe in our national squad. There is another bowler who is making mark to rise to Mashrafe’s heights. He has become a part of local first class cricket history by claiming the first hattrick during the fourth round match of the Ninth National Cricket League. Young prodigy Dollar Mahmud speaks about his feat and future thoughts.

Q: You are the first bowler to gain a hattrick in the local first class cricket. How do you feel?

Dollar: I am feeling great obviously, but I was really surprised to find that I was the first person to do so. Though it is the ninth season of National Cricket, I have achieved this feat for the first time. So I did not realize what I did actually just after grabbing the hattrick.

Q: Did you have any specific target for hattrick?

Dollar: In fact I cherished such a wish. I did this on several occasions with a tennis ball. Yet, a hattrick is a matter of luck. Falling of two wickets in two successive balls occurs quite regularly. But hattrick is still a rare incident. Somehow batsmen always manage to save themselves from the third ball.

Q: Then, did you think of taking the third wicket after picking up Junaid and Nayeem?

Dollar: I felt that I could claim a hattrick.

Q: Why did you feel so?

Dollar: The ball was swinging well, that's why I was very confident.

Q: Did you have any plan?

Dollar: Yes, I wanted to swing the ball after pitching it on the leg stamp. And that was how Mushfik got caught behind. And eventually I fulfilled my dream.

Q: Do you have any career plan now?

Dollar: I want to pursue a long career in the national team and do something for the country.

Q: Are you happy with your current progression?

Dollar: Not yet. I have to perform a lot better to reach my dreams.

Q: Who is your idol?

Dollar: Mashrafe.

Q: What about foreign players?

Dollar: Shane Bond.

Q: You are playing with you idol in the same team. Do you look for support, guidance or tips from Mashrafi?

Dollar: I am lucky to get a lot of tips. I always remain alert to take his tips and to follow them. Actually he is a great player and also a great person. No doubt he is our national pride.

Q: What factors you stress on most? Speed or technique?

Dollar: Obviously technique. Since no one can be a good bowler with speed only.

Q: Test, ODI, T20, which one do you prefer the most?

Dollar: Test.

Q: Whom did you find the toughest batsman to bowl at in you brief career?

Dollar: No one in particular. But it is really hard to bowl against Ashraful Bhai.

Q: Tell us something about Bangladesh cricket?

Dollar: Cricket in Bangladesh is getting enriched day by day. This year, National League has been arranged in a gorgeous set up. If things go on this way, Bangladesh will be soon be ranked as one of the top teams.

Q: What is your best quality?

Dollar: I am very confident.

Q: Any bad part in you?

Dollar: I easily get upset.
