We are the best team in National League: Habibul
 |
Former national
captain Habibul Bashar speaks about his personal and team
prospects in the ongoing 9th National Cricket League.
Q. You have got a very good team on paper this time too.
Habibul: Yes, a good team indeed. You can say the best team in
the National League. Our batting line-up is very strong. We have
two openers in Imrul Quayes and Junaed Imroz. With them Tushar,
Shakib and I. Our bowling attack is also the best in the league.
But we will earnestly miss Rana (Manzarul Islam) and Shetu (Sajjadul
Hassan) |
this time. I still can’t accept their tragic death in an accident. We
want to do well in the National League and dedicate the success to
them.
Q. Every time Khulna happens to be a strong team. Yet last year you
could not register a single victory in 4-day matches. Also you lost
all the one-dayers.
Habibul: Though we had the best team, we could hardly field our best
eleven. Last year we could only play in one or two matches with full
strength squad. At one point, eight members of our team left for
national duty. It is not enough to be a strong team in papers only,
rather the main players must participate to make it work.
|
Q. Do you indicate that lack of good cricketers
in the 2nd grade is your main weakness?
Habibul: You can say that. We are more dependant on those
players who represent our national team.
Q. But this time you are going to play with full strength.
Therefore Khulna should do well.
Habibul: We hope so. We should do well this time. We can
probably |
 |
play 5-6 good matches being the top team. I think we should at least
do well in these matches.
Q. Do you have any personal goal this year in the National League?
Habibul: I could never play constantly in the National League. Every
time I had to do it in the gaps of the international schedules. This
is the first time I will play without any break. So for me this will
be a different National League. For now this will be the real cricket
for me.
Q. New Zealand tour is not far away. Do you have anything to prove
before that?
Habibul: I am not thinking that way at all. It is quite sometime now I
am out of cricket. My first aim is to be among the top batsmen of the
league. It is an opportunity. I want to take this opportunity and
enjoy the league.
