The latest newcomer to the
Bangladesh national cricket team all rounder Mahmudullah Riyad is
not happy with his performance in the just-concluded Sri
Lanka-Bangladesh one-day series. He mentioned that he could have
done better than what he has delivered.
But he could not quite succeed to do much. This feeling hurts the
young cricketer a lot. He esteems his team’s triumph more than his
personal performance. For this reason unless his performance brings
victory for the team, he does not count his personal feat. He would
have been happier if his team could win on his bad bay.
Riyad got only one chance (the 3rd ODI) to play replacing middle order
batsman Tushar Imran. Yet he came in focus in that single chance. Bagging
2 wickets (Dilshan and Chandana) with off spin bowling and scoring 36 runs
he showed an excellent all-round performance, on his international debut.
But this success did not make him proud. He hopes to perform better in
future.
This young cricket talent seems to be matured in his thinking and way of
expression. He evaluates his own performance after every match. And he
wants to keep this habit up to the international level. He feels that
every cricketer can contribute to the team’s overall performance by
lifting his personal performance.
Riyad is reluctant to get lost after showing sparkling performance in just
one match. Rather he wants to maintain consistency of success in every
match. To achieve this goal, he is always prepared to do the required hard
work. He firmly believes that a cricketer should prioritize his
consistency more than anything else.
