Thumping win for GP-BCB Academy

GP-BCB Academy team crushed South Africa Academy team by an innings and 68 runs on the final day of the 1st four-day match of the GP-Academy Cup at Jessore District Stadium (JDS) Monday.

Trailing by 196 runs in the first innings, the visiting South Africa Academy team began their 2nd innings Monday to be all out for just 128 in 37.3 overs in the face of some hostile bowling by the hosts.

Wicket keeper Bradley Barnes contributed innings highest 54 off 59 balls, featuring 10 boundaries,

while middle order Richard Das Nevas managed 21 off 41 balls that included one four.

 

Spinner Suhrawardy Shuvo claimed the highest four wickets for 36 runs while Mehrab Hossain Jr scalped three wickets for 40 runs.

 

Earlier in the morning, GP-BCB Academy team resumed their first innings with overnight 319 for 4 to declare after amassing 507 for 8 in 135 overs with overnight Nayeem Islam making ton after Imrul Kayes.

Nayeem, who was batting on 96 on the 3rd day, added another 40 to make 136 off 289 balls decorated with 19 fours and two sixes while another overnight batsman Shamsur Rahman contributed 41 off 64 balls, including seven boundaries.

Discard national wicket keeper Mushfiqur Rahim also chipped in with a nice 53 sparing 66 balls that included five fours.

Besides, a brilliant 151 by left-hand opener Imrul Kayes enabled BCB Academy team to pile up a mammoth total after the tourists posted 311 for all in their first innings.

Abdul Aziz Temoor claimed three wickets for the South Africa Academy team giving away 92 runs. CJ de Villiers and Shadley van Schalkwyk took two wickets apiece.

The 2nd four-day match between these two sides will be held on April 9-12 at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Matiur Rahman Stadium (BSSRAS) in Khulna.

Then the Pakistan Academy team will arrive in Dhaka on April 14 to participate in the triangular one- day tournament.

After the tournament, the Pakistan side will play two four-day matches against their Bangladesh counterparts. The first match is billed for April 26-29 at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium (SCS) and the 2nd match from May 2-5, also at the same venue.
