Sri Lanka captain Mahela
Jayawardene felt his side thoroughly deserved their series victory
over England.
The success helps Sri Lanka rise to third in the LG ICC Test
rankings.
Jayawardene, who also scooped the man-of-the-series award, was
pleased with the way his side responded to their recent tour of
Australia where they were comprehensively beaten.
"It was a very
close game in Kandy in the first Test where England gave us a fright but
from there on we dominated the series," Jayawardene said.
"We felt that England were always on the defensive and we used it to our
advantage.
"It was an important series win for us after our defeat against
Australia.
"The Australian series taught us many important
lessons and we put it to good practise in this series."
Jayawardene also hailed the contribution of Sri Lanka's players and
felt the win was testament to the way they had prepared for the
series.
"We have a superb bunch of young guys who are working very hard and
are wanting to improve their game," he added.
"It was a fantastic series for the team Vaas, Murali, Sanga and the rest
really worked hard for our results.
"I am very happy that Sangakkara is the number one batsman in the ICC
ranking and I am sure challenging him will be interesting for me.
"But what is most important for us is the runs he will score which will
benefit the team."
