The High Court has stayed for
three months operation of the decision
fixing maximum retail price of day-old
broiler and layer chick at Tk 30 and
Tk 32 respectively by the Directorate
of Livestock.
Passing the interim order upon a writ
petition, a division bench headed by
Justice Mamnoon Rahman on Sunday
issued a rule asking the Directorate
of Livestock to explain in four weeks
why the impugned decision should not
be declared illegal.
On July 11, the Directorate of
Livestock issued the directive fixing
the maximum retail price of day-old
broiler and layer chick, which
triggered resentment among the poultry
breeders, as the directorate has no
authority to fix such price.
Breeder’s Association of Bangladesh
(BAB) filed the writ petition.
Advocate M Shafiqur Rahman, counsel
for the writ petitioner, told UNB that
he received the certified copy of the
HC orders on Tuesday.
