Bangladesh Tariff Commission is
likely to be renamed as Bangladesh
Trade Commission to enhance its
institutional working capacity,
Commerce Minister Faruk Khan said
Sunday.
“The matter is now under active
consideration of the government,” he
said while addressing a function at
the Tariff Commission marking the
completion of professional training of
the newly appointed officials of the
Commission.
Faruk Khan urged the newly appointed
officials to give their best while
working for the Commission and thus
deliver something to the country.
He said that at present there is an
imbalance in country’s export and
import as the country’s export fetched
US $ 15.5 billion against the import
of US $ 22 billion in the 2008-09
fiscal.
The Commerce Minister said that the
Tariff Commission has an important
role to figure out country’s actual
production in domestic market, its
demand, identifying the problems in
domestic market and their solutions
and revealing research findings for
export market to expedite country’s
development.
Chaired by Bangladesh Tariff
Commission chairman Dr. Mujibur
Rahman, the function was also
addressed, among others, by Commission
member Wasi Uddin Ahmed and joint
chief Dr. Mostafa Abid Khan.
