Ridesharing service guideline approved

Ridesharing service guideline approved

The cabinet on Monday (Jan 15) approved the final draft of Ridesharing Service Guideline 2017 with an aim to reducing the number of private vehicles on roads and making passenger services easier. The draft is approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Tejgaon office in Dhaka, local media reports said cited cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam.

The draft contains a provision which will allow ridesharing services in all metropolitan cities, towns and other areas across the country as well as commercial use of private vehicles like motorcars, motorcycles, jeeps, microbuses and ambulances.

It also imposes fare rate on private cars under the services as per the rate fixed for taxicabs, instead of the initial proposal for deregulated fares.

The Road Transport and Highways Division prepared the final draft with 10 sections and 45 sub-sections and sent it to the Cabinet Division in December last year.
