President Md. Abdul Hamid visited Shilaidaha Kuthibari, the country house of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore in Kumarkhali upazila on Saturday (Jan 7). The visit of 'Rabindra Kuthibari' is a part of two-day Kushtia tour of the President, local media reports said.
During the visit, President spent some time there, a must visit site in the itinerary of Tagore enthusiasts, some 20 kilometres away from Kushtia town. President planted sapling of a Spanish Cherry (Bakul flower) at the pond-side of the eye-catching Kuthibari. He also enjoyed several songs of Rabindranath there.
The President also visited Lalon Academy and enjoyed a musical programme there arranged by the academy. Later, local politicians, businessmen and other respected personalities of the district met Hamid when the President exchanged view with them.
First lady Rashida Khanam Hamid, the family members, local leaders, secretaries concerned to the Bangabhaban accompanied the President. The President arrived at Kushtia on Saturday.
Meanwhile, President Md. Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of the universities, will address the fourth Convocation of Islamic University, Bangladesh, the first higher educational institution in the south-western part of the country on Sunday.
