Bangladesh Election Commission wants to stage Upazila Parishad elections in March, Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed informed reporters at Nirbachan Bhaban on Wednesday (Jan 2), local media reported.
To hold elections in March, schedule of the polls has to be announced either in January or February. This time, upazila elections will be held under party symbols, according to Election Commission officials.
Last time, UP elections were held between February and May (in six phases) of 2014.
Under Upazila Parishad Election Act, it is obligatory to hold elections within six months before expiry of the tenure.
