Polls-time govt by 20 days, voting likely on Dec 27: Muhith

Polls-time govt by 20 days, voting likely on Dec 27: Muhith

Finance Minister A M A Muhith on Wednesday (Sep 5) said that the election-time government would be formed in next 20 days comprising Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and few more ministers. He also predicted that the next general election was likely to be held on Dec 27.

He made the remarks when the newly-elected mayor and councillors of Sylhet City Corporation met him at his secretariat office in the afternoon, local media reported.

Muhith could not say how many members would be there in the poll-time government. He, however, said there would be no representative from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and from the civil society.

He also said that the Constitution has no provision of caretaker government. So, the national polls would be conducted under an election-time government.

Muhith further said that the parliament would not be dissolved according to the present Constitution. It would be dissolved automatically soon after the new MPs would be elected through the next general election.

BNP and its allies boycotted the last national polls held on Jan 5, 2014.
