The cabinet has approved the Road Transport Act-2018, keeping a provision of five years’ jail and Tk 5 lakh fine as highest punishment.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters after the meeting at the secretariat.
The new law will be placed at the parliament session for its final approval, local media reports said.
