The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslims ending Ramadan fasting, will be observed in Bangladesh on Saturday (Jun 16), if the Shawal moon is sighted today. A meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee will be held today at the conference room of Islamic Foundation in the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque complex in Dhaka, local media reports said.

All preparations for holding the Eid congregations have already been completed across the country.

The three-day public holiday is beginning on Friday on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr. Thursday (Jun 14) was the only workday between the Eid holidays, weekends and holiday for Shab-e-Qadr.

The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr with due respect and in a smooth manner. National flags will be hoisted at government, autonomous and nongovernment offices and other important establishments.

Miniature national flags and flags inscribed with ‘Eid Mubarak’ will be displayed at important traffic islands and light posts in the city.

Besides, designated government offices and other establishments would be illuminated on the night following the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels will air special programmes and newspapers publish supplements on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Improved diets will be served in hospitals, jails and orphanages.

City corporations will keep open the children parks, allowing free entry of all visitors on the occasion of Eid.

The day will be observed in Bangladesh missions abroad too in a befitting manner.

The main Eid congregation in the capital will be held at the National Eidgah, adjacent to the premises of the Supreme Court, at 8:30 a.m.

Five Eid congregations will be held at the Baitul Muqarram National Mosque at 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Rapid Action Battalion and police, will ensure security in and around the main Eid congregation.

The country’s biggest Eid congregation of the country will be held at Sholakia Eidgha Maidan in Kishoreganj.

All preparations have been completed for Eid congregations.

Bangladesh Railway will operate two pairs of Solakia special train on the Bhoirab-Kishoreganj-Bhoirab and Mymensingh-Kishoreganj-Mymensingh routes on the day for carrying the passengers to and from the Sholakia Eidgha Maidan.

Divisional, district and upazila administrations and local government bodies have completed preparations in their respective areas to observe the Eid-ul-Fitr.

Around 250 Eid congregations are scheduled to be held this year at the traditional and temporary venues in the city under the supervision of Chittagong Central Eid Jamaat Committee and the Chittagong City Corporation.

The law enforcers have taken tight security measures across the country marking the Eid festival.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries is celebrating the holy Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday (Jun 15) as the Shawwal crescent was sighted on Thursday (Jun 14).
