Sri Lanka clinch T20I series 2-0

Sri Lanka on Sunday (Feb 18) beat Bangladesh by 75 runs to sweep the two-match T20 international cricket series 2-0. The visitors had also clinched the ODI tri-series also involving Zimbabwe before claiming the two-match Test series 1-0 earlier this month.

Put into bat the visitors posted a mammoth 210 for 4 in 20 overs with openers Kusal Mendis (70) and Danushka Gunathilaka (42) starring with the bat while Thisara Perera (31) and Dasun Shanaka (30*) also made useful contributions in the middle order. Mendis' knock was laced with six boundaries and three sixes while his opening partner smashed three fours and two maximums. The duo added 98 runs for the first wicket to give their team the start that they were looking for.

In reply Bangladesh got bowled out for 135 in 18.4 overs with captain Mahmudullah ending up as the highest scorer for his side with 41 and opener Tamim Iqbal added 29.

Pace bowler Shehan Madushanka and off-spinner Akila Dananjaya reduced Bangladesh to 22-3 in three overs before opener Tamim Iqbal and captain Mahmudullah put on their stand.

Sri Lankan bowlers were able to stem the run flow that resulted in the wicket of Tamim for 29. Tamim's dismissal virtually sealed the Tigers' fate.

Madushanka and Danushka Gunathilaka claimed two wickets apiece.
