After staging several programs like human chain, sit-in and hunger strike, Bangladesh Nationalist Party has announced countrywide new demonstration programs including mass signature campaign in demand of its party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's release. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced to program plan at a press conference in party’s Naya Paltan central office on Thursday (Feb 15), local media reports said.
According to the announcement, BNP will hold a mass signature campaign across the country on Saturday (Feb 17) and will send memorandum to each Deputy Commissioner on Sunday (Feb 18). Finally the party will stage demonstration in district sadar and thana levels on Tuesday (Feb 20).
Mentioning that a deeper conspiracy is underway to keep BNP away from polls and make it a leaderless party, Fakhrul said the main objective of this plot is to establish "one-party" rule in country. BNP senior leaders were also present at the press meet.
On Feb 8, BNP chairperson was sentenced to five years imprisonment in a graft case and sent to Dhaka central jail.
Protesting the verdict, BNP organized human chain on Feb 12, sit-in program on Feb 13 and three-hour long hunger strike on Feb 14.
