Bangladesh celebrated Pohela Falgun on Tuesday (Feb 13) to mark the advent of spring with flowers and festivities. Young people are also ready to celebrate the Valentine's Day with fun and exchange of pleasantries all over the country.
Colorful celebration marked the daylong festivities of Pohela Falgun in the capital and other cities. Girls wore red and yellow saris and clipped red flowers on the hair tops as a mark of celebration. Young men and women wished their fiances with flowers and spent time out door enjoying music and dining in the wayside eateries. Similar celebration is expected particularly among youngs today to celebrate the Valentine's Day.
Band groups rendered music at important city places and open gardens like Ramna Park and Suhrawardy Udyan to welcome the Spring. Dhaka University Music Department organized musical festival in front of the Arts Faculty Building where enthusiasts gathered in large number and made the event colorful with dance. Similar events were held at 'Bokultola' in front of the Fine Arts Faculty of the Dhaka University.
University students also celebrated the event exchanging flowers among friends. Young girls in colorful saris wandered around in groups. Sales of various flowers marked a sharp rise on this occasion. Teenagers thronged flower shops to buy flowers, floral gifts and boutiques to celebrate the Pohela Falgun and Valentine's Day.
Meanwhile, Amar Ekushey Granthomela (book fair) wore a festive look as the cheerful visitors started making stops from stall to stall. From Shahbagh to Doyel Chattar and from Bangla Academy to Suhrawardy Udyan, people of all ages were seen enjoying themselves and taking photographs with their loved ones. By the end of the day most of them were seen going home with bundles of books and showing smiles on their faces.
