Campaign launches to recognize Bangla as UN official language

Jagonews24.com, one of the leading online news portals of Bangladesh, has launched month-long online campaign for the recognition of Bengali as an official language of the United Nations (UN), said a press release. Under the campaign, the online portal will collect people's vote through online for the recognition of Bengali as an official language of the United Nations. Anyone can vote through www.jagonews24.com/MakeBanglaOfficial website. Mustafa Jabbar, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications & Information Technology, inaugurated the campaign held at PRA-RFL Center at the capital's Badda on Thursday (Feb 1). PRAN group is supporting the month long campaign.

Mustafa Jabbar said, "we expect that Bengali language will be used all sphere of life as we got our mother tongue Bengali through sacrifice of lives. The endeavor of Jago news to make Bengali as UN official language a time befitting one." The minister thanked PRAN Group for their involvement with this campaign.

Shujan Mahmud, Editor of jagonews24.com said, "As a language Bengali has many achievements in various sectors including Nobel Prize in literature and Academy awards. Now, Bengali is the seventh most spoken native language in the world as more than 30 crore people speak in the language.  Sierra Leone also recognized Bengali as its second official language. So, our demand to the UN is to make the language as one of the official languages of the UN."

Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Chairman and CEO of PRAN-RFL group said, "As a nation, we were successful in language movement in 1952 to make Bengali as our mother tongue. Now the time is to make our language as one of the official ones of the UN. We are happy to be engaged with such kind of campaign."
