EC publishes final voter lists

Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday (Jan 31) published the final voter lists with a total of 10,41,42,381 voters across the country. A total of 27,01,780 people were registered as new voters ahead of the next general polls, Helaludding Ahmed, acting Secretary of the EC, told a press conference at the Nirbachan Bhaban's media center in the city's Agargaon area. Of the total voters, 5,25,13,105 are male while 5,16,30,276 female.

Replying to a query, the EC secretary said voter registration is an ongoing process and eligible people can be registered as voters round the year. People, who will be registered as voters until declaration of election scheduled, can vote in the next general elections, he added.

There is also an opportunity for the people to be registered as voters after declaration of election schedule with the permission of the EC, he said.

The total number of voters was 9,19,65,167 during the 10th parliamentary elections held on Jan 5, 2014, local media reports said.
