The second phase of 53th Biswa Ijtema (world's Muslims congregation), organized by Tablig Jamaat, concluded on Sunday (Jan 21) with Akheri Munajat (concluding prayers) on the bank of the Turag river at Tongi, on the outskirts of the capital.
Lakhs of Muslim devotees, both from home and abroad, converged on the congregation venue and attended the concluding prayers seeking world peace, divine forgiveness, blessings for the Muslim Ummah.
Hafez Mohammad Zubayer, the Imam of Kakrail Mosque in Dhaka, conducted the Akheri Munajat which began around 10:20 a.m. He recited the final prayers in Bangla like the first phase of Biswa Ijtema held on Jan 12-14.
President Md. Abdul Hamid joined the Akheri Munajat of the second phase of the three-day Bishwa Ijtema from his official residence Bangabhaban, local media reports said. From her official residence Ganobhaban in the capital city, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the Akheri Munajat of the Ijtema's first phase.
Apart from the Ijtema venue, thousands of devotees joined the munajat from the rooftops and terraces of nearby houses, roads and open fields.
Islamic scholars from different countries delivered sermons on various aspects of Islam at the Ijtema. The second phase of the three-day Ijtema began after Fazr prayers earlier on Friday. Around 4,000 foreign devotees from 79 countries joined the second phase of Ijtema.
The two phases 54th Biswa Ijtema has been scheduled to be held from Jan 11 to 13 and Jan 18 to 20, 2019 at the same venue.
Tablig Jamaat has been organizing the Biswa Ijtema on the bank of Turag River since 1967. Since 2011 the Ijtema is being held in two phases to ease the accommodation problem.
